GNR/LNER/BR Stirling Class D Tender
HISTORY
Stirling first introduced an iron frame tender in 1883, it did however retain a wooden buffer beam. Two styles were built, one for goods work (later Class C) and the other (later class D) for passenger. Class C had a flat bottom tank and 3ft 6 inch wheels whilst the Class D had a well tank and 4ft 2in diameter wheels. The final Class D design had a capacity of 3850 gallons of water. In later years many of the Class D tenders were attached to goods locomotives.
Information on GNR tenders can be found in Vol 1 of the RCTS series on Locomotives of the GNR
THE KIT
The kit has an etched brass body and a separate etched brass inside chassis. The castings are whitemetal apart from the vacuum pipe and steam heat pipe which are cast brass. The chassis can be built either rigid or compensated. Only bearings for a rigid chassis are included in the kit, but it can be easily compensated using proprietary hornblocks, we suggest the use of our own, see the Accessories section of this handbook. Wheels need to be purchased separately, we can supply Slaters finescale wheels.
