RR/GWR 10T Covered Goods Van
These wooden solebar vans were fitted with two pairs of side doors, presumably to assist speed of loading and unloading. Although the Rhymney Railway was a Westinghouse line it is believed that none of this series of vans was ever fitted with anything better than a single sided two shoe handbrake operable from either side of the van. Originally the vans had a handrail across the end of the van for shunter's use, they were however banned and removed following a serious accident. At least one van was observed with outsideframed doors.
The last survivors which made it to the 50's were those that had been taken into departmental use and others that had been sold off to collieries or dock companies.
The vans were originally fitted with 3ft 1in, 8 split spoke wheels, although later 8 plain spoke wheels of the same diameter may have been fitted.
The kit consists of an etched brass body and rigid chassis with whitemetal detailing parts and sprung buffers. A pre-formed brass roof is supplied.
Wheels and couplings are needed to complete the kit
