The LSWR built theseWarner designed cattle vans from 1914-19 for cattle traffic (later SR diagram 1502) and 1911-13 for military horse traffic ( later SR diagram 1501). Externally diagrams 1501 and 1502 looked the same and it is believed that the difference lay in the internal tethering arrangements for the animals. The SR continued to build the design adding a final 25 in 1923. A total of 248 vans were built between the two diagrams of which 38 survived to become BR property.

They were never fitted with an automatic brake although many did receive a through pipe so that they could be included in fitted trains, they usually had screw couplings. The prototype was originally fitted with 3'5" Mansell wheels, however in later years these may have been replaced with plain coach disc wheels of the same diameter.

The kit consists of an etched brass body and chassis with whitemetal detailing parts and sprung buffers. A pre-formed brass roof is supplied. The chassis has rocking W-Iron suspension.

Wheels and couplings are needed to complete the kit.
