LNWR 4-4-0 4 cylinder Compound Jubilee
The LNWR Jubilee class were first introduced in 1897 with 1502 Black Prince, used for comparison with the otherwise identical four cylinder but "simple" Iron Duke. The rest of the class were introduced from 1899. As built, Black Prince was fitted with a double chimney. This was later replaced with the standard single chimney and the loco renumbered 1902. Iron Duke was converted to a compound, given the number 1901 and renamed Jubilee. The name Iron Duke was then used on the first of the 1899 engines, number 1903.
A total of 40 Jubilees were built up to 1900, all being converted to 2 cylinder Renown’s between 1910 and 1924, except for 1904 Rob Roy which was scrapped in 1923.
They were fitted with 7’ 1" diameter wheels with 20 spokes. The large central bosses incorporated balance weight pockets and the crankpins were in line with the spokes. The “double radial truck” moved sideways radially, a design that was also used on later engines such as the Precursor and George V classes. The radial truck wheels were 3’ 9” diameter with 10 spokes.
Typically of LNWR locos, they did not suffer many alterations during their working lives. Two, 1912 & 1930, were equipped with Belpaire boilers in 1904 (as this detracted from their elegant lines, we have opted not to produce this variation). Some were fitted with capuchons to the chimney while the front centre lamp socket was not added until 1903. All Jubilees were equipped with the Webb 2000-gallon wood framed tender. As built both loco and tender had Webb buffers; some later changed to the Whale type.

The kit has the loco body and chassis etched in nickel-silver, with cast brass and cast whitemetal boiler fittings and lost wax cast brass parts for the finer details. The loco chassis is designed for either rigid or sprung/compensated assembly.
The 2000 gallon tender kit also has an etched nickel silver chassis and an etched nickel silver "body" and cast whitemetal detailing components. The tender chassis can also be built rigid as supplied; or compensated or sprung using our 7mm cast brass hornblock system. The tender kit is also available separately.
