H&BR/LNER Horsebox
The 10 vehicles were built in two batches in 1884-85 and the available information is sparse, consisting of two works photographs and a drawing which varies in small detail from the finished van. The drawing details a sliding shutter in the top door, which is not evident in one photograph of the first batch, though the dog box under the groom's seat is not on the drawing but exists on the photograph! No brake gear is shown either in drawing or in the photograph as built. The vehicle is however fitted with Varley's Patent Electric Communication Gear and Westinghouse through pipe in ex-works condition. As the horse boxes were taken into NER stock, it could be assumed that they did acquire some brakes and probably through pipe at least for Westinghouse and/or vacuum. Entry into NER stock may have seen them fitted with 8 shoe brakes, vacuum fitted and accordingly these parts are included to enable fitting to choice.
All were withdrawn in the period between 1924 and1929.
The horseboxes were originally fitted with 3ft 6in Mansell disc wheels, although later plain disc wheels of the same diameter may have been fitted.
The kit consists of an etched brass body and rigid chassis with whitemetal detailing parts and sprung buffers. A pre-formed brass roof is supplied.
Wheels and couplings are needed to complete the kit.
