CR/LMS Horsebox

chb.gif (23568 bytes)

The Caledonian Railway built 86 horseboxes to diagram 7124 between 1893 and 1904. All the vehicles were built with dual brake, both Westinghouse and Vacuum. Steam heating connections weren't provided initially, but were later fitted to all the vehicles.

Withdrawal began in 1923 and 34 of the horseboxes never received LMS numbers although there are gaps in the number series where they would have been. The last vehicle to be withdrawn was CR No. 46, by then carrying LMS number 6752.

The horseboxes were originally fitted with 3ft9in Mansell disc wheels, although later plain disc wheels of the same diameter may have been fitted.
