This was the largest tender produced by the North Eastern Railway, and was introduced in 1914. When first produced, they were paired with the Z class Atlantics, together with some of the later built T2(Q6)'s, and appeared to have two different types of coal rails. Later they were paired with the S3 class. The first type had the rails at the rear finish flush with the division plate, the second type were swept down at the rear to match the profile at the front. In the late 1930's, when five D49's were rebuilt with piston valves, the group standard tenders with which they were paired were removed and this type of tender, taken from Q6 class locomotives, substituted. One, fitted to D49 318, had the coal rails cut back at the division plate; the rest had full-length rails.

The body is etched in brass, the chassis etched in nickel silver and can be compensated if required.
The fittings are a mixture of high quality whitemetal and lost wax castings.
The kit comes with our own LNER Group Standard buffers.
